Arson investigate suspicious fire in Hadfield

Detectives from the Arson and Explosives Squad are investigating a suspicious fire in Hadfield early this morning.

Emergency services responded to reports of a car on fire at the corner of East and Middle Streets about 3.10am.

The fire then spread to a fruit and vegetable shop, which sustained significant damage during the blaze.

The fire has been deemed suspicious and the investigation remains ongoing.

Police believe the incident was targeted and is likely linked to a series of arson attacks on tobacco stores dating back to March this year.

Investigators are appealing for anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously or who may have seen a silver Volkswagen Jetta or white Audi in the area around the time of the fire to contact police.

Anyone with information or CCTV/dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
