- Thirteen projects to share in $609,088 through the State Government’s Arts 15k-plus program
- Artforms include literature, dance, contemporary music and theatre
- The funding will bring the New Bachelorette with Julia Hales to the stage in 2024
The Cook Government is investing $609,088 in 13 diverse projects including the presentation of the New Bachelorette, a theatrical production by Julia Hales and Bron Batten.
The New Bachelorette is the latest performance by Julia Hales, who brought the successful show You Know We Belong Together to the stage in 2018, touring sold out shows in Edinburgh and London’s Southbank in 2022.
Projects and activities for this funding will commence after 1 September 2023. It is the final round of the Arts 15k-plus program as it transitions to the new streamlined arts projects funding with an increased available funding limit of $80,000 per project.
The new WA Government Arts Projects for Organisations funding program, administered by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, opened 22 August 2023, offering arts and creative industry organisations up to $80,000 to deliver a project or a program of activities.
This funding runs alongside the Arts projects for Individuals and Groups program which offers the same amount of funding for artists and creative industry professionals.

Arts 15k-plus recipients – Round 3 2022-23
The Literature Centre Inc. $20,761
The Literature Centre will deliver two public events, Celebrate Reading and Storytellers, at the Fremantle Town Hall in October 2023. Celebrate Reading is a national conference aimed at teachers, librarians and lovers of storytelling, and Storytellers is a free festival celebrating storytelling and creative process, aimed at families and emerging writers.
Emilia Galatis $53,392
New works by Western Australian Aboriginal artists Corban Williams and Garry Sibosado to be presented at Australia’s premier International Art Fair; Sydney Contemporary in September 2023. These two artists will participate in a significant national and international arts commercial development opportunity and event.
Craig Silvey $60,000
Development of the novel ‘The Prospector’ set in the Goldfields region of Western Australia in the late 19th century, incorporating themes of gender, faith, relationships, family, trauma, national identity, institutional corruption, and racial dynamics.
Brandon Chiseko $20,573
Perth hip hop, dance and R&B music artist to release their self-funded debut album in 2023 including creation of marketing assets to accompany the campaign.
Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts Ltd $45,060
International Artist Exchange Program with Taipei, Singapore, Makassar and Marseille. The program establishes international networks, enables Western Australian artists to reach international markets and gain a deeper understanding of the global arts economy.
Performing Lines Limited WA Grant administered for Julia Hales – $59,999
The New Bachelorette to premiere in 2024 an innovative piece of contemporary performance exploring love, dating and relationships. It reimagines the reality TV franchise, with Julia an actor with Down syndrome starring as the bachelorette dating disabled and neuro-diverse men live on stage.
Andrew Nicholls $58,765
Artistic development working with collaborators in classical music, videography and lighting design to create an immersive installation inspired by the recent total solar eclipse. The outcome will be a major solo exhibition in 2024.
Alice Hamilton Cummins $26,065
A six-week creative development culminating in three public performances in 2024. ‘Terra’ is a solo dance work with an underlying provocation of what colonisation has wrought to the fragile ancient crust of our country.
S Akindele-Obe; MA Baxter; QM Saad; GK Sanyangore and J Van Der Merwe $60,000
Indian Ocean Craft Triennial (IOTA) artists exhibiting in Western Australia. IOTA will take place in Western Australia from August to October 2024 and will use over 50 venues including institutional, local government, not for profit, galleries, museums, pop-ups, and unconventional spaces.
Breaksea Incorporated $60,000
2024 Youth Mentorship Program – a six-month collaborative singing, acting, dance workshop and performance series delivered between the Great Southern and Perth in 2024.
Australian Dance Council – Ausdance WA Branch Inc $60,000
Reinvigoration of professional development, membership and advocacy services to reboot Ausdance WA as the State’s leading service organisation for dance, to advocate for and support dance organisations and artists.
Thomas King $38,300
Contemporary music artists Dice to undertake a series of performances across Australia including South by Southwest Showcase and a Spring National Tour from September to November 2023.
Amber Kitney $46,173
Rehearsal and presentation of the world premiere of theatre performance Salted Pretzels by Cezera Critti-Schnaars at The Blue Room Theatre in October 2023.
