Global law firm Ashurst has advised Eku Energy on the development and financing of the Williamsdale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). Eku Energy has partnered with the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Government to deliver the BESS.
The Williamsdale BESS Project is part of the ACT Government’s Big Canberra Battery project. It is a 250MW / 500MWh energy storage system in Williamsdale, Australian Capital Territory (ACT). The large grid-connected battery will be able to supply energy to one-third of Canberra for two hours during peak demand periods. The battery is also a vital part of the ACT’s plan to reduce emissions across the ACT, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, create a cleaner, green and more sustainable city and generate revenue for the ACT.
The Ashurst team was led by partner Chris Redden, who was assisted by: partners Dan Brown, Kate Phillips, Rebecca Dixon, Clare Lawrence, and David Jardine, consultants Paul Newman, Chris Skordas, and Isabelle Laborde, counsel Douglas Fung and senior associates Mike Webb, Stephen Blair, Kate Latta, Ian Harris, Christine Chang, and Jessica Lee (Projects & Energy Transition); partner Anita Choi (Corporate Transactions); partners Clare Doneley and Geoff McGrath and senior associate Kendrick Deng (Digital Economy Transactions), partner Corey McHattan (Finance Regulatory); and partners Kellie Hairsine and Damian Salsbury and senior associate Tai Laves (Real Estate).
