Assault, evade police charges at Rockhampton

A 31-year-old Rockhampton man has been charged with multiple offences following a series of incidents across Rockhampton yesterday (March 3).

Police will allege a vehicle had been involved in a traffic crash at Wandal in which a member of the public sustained a minor leg injury when he was hit by the car at 7.30am.

At 7.45am, officers located the vehicle of interest on Kent Street and attempted to intercept the vehicle however it allegedly failed to stop and evaded police.

Police will allege the driver and sole occupant drove directly at the police car before speeding away towards Archer Street.

At 3pm, police located the vehicle in a backyard and on police arrival, the man allegedly walked from the front of the residence holding a knife.

It will further be alleged the man, after multiple requests, dropped the knife and was taken immediately into custody.

He has been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, evade police and obstruct police.

He will appear in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court today.
