ATEM announces new patron

Professor Barney Glover AO

The Association for Tertiary Education Management (ATEM) Inc welcomes Professor Barney Glover AO, Vice-Chancellor and President of Western Sydney University, as its new Patron. Professor Glover will represent and champion ATEM in its mission to advance excellence in the tertiary education sector alongside Derek McCormack, Vice-Chancellor of Auckland University of Technology, who is the New Zealand based Patron of ATEM.

Professor Glover is a distinguished academic leader, an accomplished mathematician and an experienced Vice-Chancellor.

Following his role as Vice-Chancellor of Charles Darwin University, Professor Glover assumed the position as Vice-Chancellor and President of Western Sydney University in 2014 and is leading the University through a period of significant growth and development. A student-centred university with a research-led culture and an expanding international reach and reputation, Western Sydney University is also a leading advocate for the Western Sydney region and its people.

In January 2019, Professor Glover was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for distinguished service to tertiary education, to professional associations, and to cultural organisations.

Professor Glover said he is pleased to take on this new role.

“I am delighted to be a Patron of ATEM – the tertiary sector’s pre-eminent professional body – and to represent our tertiary administrators and managers who make such a valuable contribution to their institutions,” said Professor Glover.

“ATEM’s work is important to advancing the professional practice of all those who work across tertiary education administration and management. I look forward to working with the ATEM Board and its members to continue to advocate for and help build the profile of the tertiary education management sector.”

Michelle Jordan-Tong, ATEM President, said “Professor Glover has a strong passion and commitment to the development of professional staff in the sector. We are very excited that he has agreed to take on the role of Patron for ATEM and the Board is looking forward to working with Professor Glover.”
