Attempted carjacking in Melbourne CBD

Police have arrested two men following an alleged attempted carjacking in Melbourne’s CBD this morning.

It is understood a grey Mazda sedan crashed into a blue Audi which was stationary at traffic lights on King Street, near the intersection of Collins Street, about 7.40am.

Investigators were told two men, armed with weapons, got out of the grey Mazda and refused to exchange details with the male driver of the blue Audi.

Following an altercation, it is alleged the men stole the keys for the Audi.

One of the men got inside the vehicle but was unable to start it.

Two police officers were patrolling nearby and quickly responded to the incident.

A 37-year-old man and a 29-year-old man were arrested at the scene.

They are assisting police with their enquiries.
