Attempted murder charge laid over domestic assault in Ermington

Detectives have charged a man with attempted murder following an alleged domestic-related incident in Sydney’s west yesterday.

About 2.45am (Tuesday 31 March 2020), emergency services were called to a home on Florida Avenue, Ermington, following reports three people had been injured.

A 72-year-old woman was taken to Westmead Hospital, where she remains in a critical but stable condition.

Two men, aged 81 and 87, were also taken to Westmead Hospital; both in a stable condition.

Officers from Cumberland Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced an investigation under Strike Force Mirambeena.

Following inquiries, strike force investigators arrested the 81-year-old man at Westmead Hospital before he was taken to Granville Police Station about 7.45pm yesterday.

He was charged with wound with intent to murder, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Police will allege in court that the 81-year-old man attacked the woman with a meat tenderiser before he assaulted the 87-year-old man.

It will further be alleged that all three are known to each other.

The Ermington man was refused bail and is expected to appear at Parramatta Local Court tomorrow (Thursday 2 April 2020).

Investigations are continuing.
