Auckland rail workers suspended; an employer trend?

The Council of Trade Unions Secretary SamHuggard is calling on Auckland Transport, part of Auckland Council tointervene, and “remove the suspensions which are preventing the people whokeep Auckland’s trains safe, from doing their work.”

“CAF, the company Auckland Transport havecontracted to provide maintenance and repair work on Aucklander’s trains, needsto listen to their employees rather than deploy this extremely aggressivetactic which is clearly aimed at starving these working people intosubmission.”

“This is the second time in a week wherean employer has suspended employees once they have decided to take industrialaction. This is what happened with Access Community Health as well. Employerswho treat their employees this way are deploying what can only be described asbullying tactics.”

“All Kiwis have the right to come togetherand raise their collective voice about issues in their workplace. Goodemployers listen to their employees. Bad employers act to silence theiremployees. We challenge all employers to do the right thing, the just thing, and listen,” Huggard said.
