Audit and Risk Committee Charter Reviewed – Campaspe Shire Council

Campaspe Shire Council has adopted a revised Audit and Risk Committee Charter, following a recent review.

Mayor Cr Adrian Weston said the charter outlines the committee’s role and responsibility in assisting council in overseeing financial and performance reporting, risk management, the audit process and compliance with legislation and the code of conduct.

“The charter also sets out the membership of the committee and duration of appointment, being three independent external members and two councillors,” Cr Weston said.

When council last advertised the external positions to the committee in August 2018, applications were received from a strong field of applicants.

“This triggered a review of the charter, with specific consideration to be given to the membership composition of the committee,” the Mayor added.

In reviewing the charter, changes made include:

  • Introducing a new member category – external affiliate member – a position that council can appoint for a term of up to two years.
  • Defining the criteria for appointment of the new external affiliate member as well as outlining the limitations of no voting rights or allowance.
  • Adding additional guidance points for the selection panel when reviewing applications and recommending suitable candidates to council for appointment.
  • Clarifying that councillors, not appointed to the committee, may attend the committee meetings as an observer.

“Council will now review applications received from August 2018 to identify a suitable person to fill the external affiliate position through to December 2019,” Cr Weston said.

“This position will then be advertised, along with other expired external full member positions, at the end of year.”
