The Australian Hydrogen Council (AHC) and Canadian Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association (CHFCA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on the commercial deployment of zero-emission hydrogen and fuel cell technologies.
The MOU outlines areas of cooperation between Australia and Canada, including identifying opportunities for joint projects in mining and transportation, exchanging market intelligence and best practices for codes and standards, developing common messages to raise awareness of the benefits of hydrogen and fuel cells, and promoting business and research collaboration.
The CHFCA and AHC represent leading companies and organisations in the global hydrogen and fuel cell sector. These companies and organisations span the full supply chain, including fuel cell developers, hydrogen producers, vehicle manufacturers, components suppliers, academia, engineering and service providers, and fuelling infrastructure and storage specialists.

Australia is committed to growing its hydrogen industry. In November 2019, the Australian Government unveiled its National Hydrogen Strategy. It has pledged A$300 million (US$191 million) to jumpstart hydrogen projects with the help of low-cost financing and build the industry by 2030. A Hydrogen Project Team was established in March 2020 to implement the strategy.
Austrade introduced the two associations and facilitated the discussions that resulted in the MOU.
