Today I announce the appointment of Mr Greg Wilcock as Australia’s new Consul-General in Mumbai.
India is a natural economic and strategic partner at the forefront of Australia’s international relationships. In 2018-19, India was Australia’s eighth-largest trading partner, with total two-way trade in goods and services of $30.3 billion, and the level of two-way investment of $30.7 billion in 2018.
The Consulate-General in Mumbai plays a key role in advancing Australia’s trade, commercial and investment interests in the western states of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa. A key focus of the Consulate-General will be implementing Australia’s India Economic Strategy in the priority states of Maharashtra and Gujarat, which are major sources of students and tourists in Australia.
As India’s financial and commercial capital, Mumbai is a hub for Australian businesses and the centre of an important market for Australian services.
Mr Wilcock is a senior career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was most recently Assistant Secretary, United States and Canada Branch. He has previously served overseas as High Commissioner for Australia in Dhaka; as well as postings in Dili, Washington, and Jakarta.
In Canberra he has served as Director, Nous Group Management Consultants; Director, Iran and Levant Section, DFAT; Adviser, Office of the Minister for Foreign Affairs; and Director, Iraq Task Force, DFAT.
Mr Wilcock holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the Australian National University; and a Graduate Diploma in Foreign Affairs and Trade from Monash University.
