Matildas - Australia's FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 preparations

The world’s biggest women’s sporting event is fast approaching. In under 500 days, the Matildas will represent Australia as it co-hosts the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023. This will be a tournament of firsts, as it will be the first women’s world cup:

  • co-hosted by 2 countries
  • played in the Southern hemisphere
  • with 32 teams.

In a significant milestone for the event, Football Australia recently revealed 13 training sites across Australia’s 5 host cities. The confirmation of these training facilities connects local communities with the tournament, supporting participation and growth of the women’s game. This will deliver a lasting legacy  for Australia’s next generation of footballers and inspire even more women and girls to participate.

The Matildas’ preparation for the World Cup also continues on home soil in April. They recently announced a 2-match international friendly series against co-hosts New Zealand, which will be their first hit out since February’s Asian cup.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023 will be played between 19 July and 20 August 2023.
