Rugby World Cup

Rugby Union’s biggest sporting event – The Rugby World Cup – will return to Australia in 2027 and 2029. World Rugby awarded hosting rights of both tournaments on Thursday, 12 May 2022.

The announcement will see Australia host the Rugby World Cup 40 years on from the inaugural tournament in 1987. Australia will be the first country to host the men’s event 3 times and the first on home soil since 2003.

As part of this announcement, Australia is set to host the women’s tournament for the first time in 2029.

These Rugby World Cups will be the centrepiece of a decade of international rugby events in Australia and provide opportunities to boost participation and grow grassroots rugby.

Rugby Australia will continue working with World Rugby to finalise host cities and venues.
