The Australian College of Nursing (ACN) has welcomed the announcement of the Queen’s Birthday Honours List today and congratulated all the nurses who received awards.
Acting ACN CEO Yvonne Mckinlay FACN outlined the awards were an important recognition of the unwavering commitment nurses have displayed in leading their communities through the prolonged challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I congratulate all the nurses who have been named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List, in particular those who are members and friends of the nursing profession,” she said.
“For the last two years, nurses have given our all to ensure expert and compassionate care is provided to those who need it most. We battled a virus at work as well as home and stood tall to help our communities through natural disasters even when we ourselves were impacted.”
“There is no health care without nurses and awards like the Queen’s Birthday Honours ensure the sacrifices of Australia’s largest health profession are recognised by the broader public.”
“Today is also an important time to acknowledge the long-standing and diverse contributions nurses make to our society. As a profession dedicated to social impact, we make a difference in a wide range of ways which extend beyond our professional commitments and into the heart of the communities we serve.”
“All the nurses honoured should be very proud of their achievements and I thank them for what they have done to improve the health of all Australians.”
