Hundreds of cricketers in the Top End for national competition

Cricket fans are set to be bowled over, with the 2023 Australian Masters Indoor Cricket Championships to take place in Darwin.

Almost 500 cricketers, friends and fans will descend on the Top End for the championships, which will take place from 20-27 May at Palmerston Indoor Sports Centre.

There will be five divisions for competitors to participate in – Women’s Over 30 and Men’s Over 35, 40, 45 and 50. More than 25 teams are expected to compete.

The championships have not been played in the NT since 2000, and will provide an opportunity for cricketers across Australia to catch up while enjoying everything the Territory has to offer.

The championships also provide an opportunity for local cricketers to play against interstate teams in their own backyard.

Matches will be played from 10am to 9pm, with the semi-finals on Friday, 26 May and the grand finals starting from 8am on Saturday, 27 May.

The 2023 Australian Masters Indoor Cricket Championships is supported by the Northern Territory Government through the Northern Territory Major Events Company.

Quotes from Northern Territory Major Events Company CEO Suzana Bishop:

“Bringing competitive sport to the Northern Territory through a national event provides an opportunity for Territorians to compete at a higher level, as well as draws competitors to the Territory who stay and experience what the Territory has to offer.

“In this case it’s indoor cricket, and there are plenty of avid players here in the Top End who will be excited this event is taking place here.

“Supporting national sporting championships to take place in the Territory also allows some of our younger, aspiring athletes to understand the possibilities of sport and where it can take them, and that it can be a life-long passion.”

Quotes from Indoor Sports NT Incorporated Chair Amanda Challen:

“The best indoor cricketers from around Australia will be competing for the glory of being Australian Champions.

“Players are also competing for selection in Australian teams for the Trans-Tasman Series, which is to be played on the Gold Coast in October. It is an exciting time for fans of indoor cricket.”
