Aviation sector encouraged to apply for ADS-B equipment rebate

ADS-B is a system which automatically broadcasts the precise location of the aircraft via a digital data link. The data can be used by other aircraft and potentially air traffic control to show the aircraft’s position and altitude.

Widespread adoption of ADS-B has the potential to improve the management of airspace, and reduce the risk of collisions between aircraft, and between aircraft and the increasing use of uncrewed aircraft such as drones. ADS-B is already mandated in Australian aircraft flying under Instrument Flight Rules, which includes most commercial flights.

Round 2 of the program provides grants of up to $5,000 for owners and pilots to install the technology on their aircraft.
