Backing community recovery by upgrading Mordialloc Pier

Liberal Party Victoria

Mordialloc locals and visitors will enjoy a safer, more accessible and user-friendly Mordialloc Pier under a new commitment from the Victorian Liberals and Nationals.

First constructed in 1857, Mordialloc Pier has been a drawcard enjoyed by local families, fishers, boaters and recreational users for generations.

With reports today that at least 19 piers and jetties across Port Phillip and Western Port are now fully or partially closed to the public due to safety concerns, maintaining these assets is key to supporting local communities to recover and rebuild.

Therefore, a Matthew Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will deliver $3.8 million to upgrade the Mordialloc Pier, with designing and planning works to be conducted in partnership with the local community and pier users.

Leader of the Opposition, Matthew Guy highlighted the importance of supporting local communities to get back on track.

“From fishers and boaters, to organisations and recreational users – piers and jetties play a critical role right along Victoria’s shoreline.”

“By backing local projects for local communities, the Victorian Liberals and Nationals will support families and businesses across our state to recover, rebuild and move forward with their lives.”

Shadow Minister for Ports, Roma Britnell highlighted the importance of investing to keep local piers and jetties open and safe.

“With at least 19 piers and jetties partially or fully shut off to the public, it’s clear these much loved community assets need additional support.”

“Our commitment means a safer, better Mordialloc Pier for fishers, boaters and recreational users to continue enjoying for years to come.”

Liberal Candidate for Mordialloc, Phillip Pease said his focus is on supporting Mordialloc families and businesses to recover and rebuild.

“The Victorian Liberals and Nationals are committed to listening and delivering on the needs of local communities.”

“The Mordialloc Pier is a much loved and iconic destination for the community. This upgrade will support our local community to recover and rebuild.”
