Backward Glance – Significant sites and buildings on Sunshine Coast

To coincide with the release of Sunshine Coast Council’s proposed planning scheme amendment for historic cultural heritage, this week’s Backward Glance showcases some of our local heritage places and character areas.

The Sunshine Coast is one of the fastest growing regions in Australia and an important part of effectively managing and accommodating that growth is to ensure we understand, protect and conserve our region’s heritage so that it is available to be enjoyed and understood by current and future generations.

The proposed amendment reaffirms the need to continue to protect heritage places and character areas through the planning scheme by identifying new and modified local heritage places, character areas, character buildings and local plan elements, while removing some existing local heritage places from the planning scheme (this includes sites where the heritage fabric no longer exists).

Visit council’s website to view the proposed planning scheme amendment and for a full listing of the locations, supporting information, online mapping and details on how to make a submission before September 16.
