Bad behaviour around Beaufort

Beaufort police had a busy weekend patrolling the roads as part of Operation Compass.

Police were on patrol on Saturday afternoon when they received a report of a Nissan Pathfinder travelling at high speed on the Western Highway heading towards Ararat about 6.15.

The vehicle was located police a short time later after it had crashed into a barrier and rolled in Middle Creek.

Three occupants of the vehicle were lucky not to be seriously hurt and were treated at the scene.

The driver, a 30-year-old from metropolitan Melbourne, returned a breath test of .149.

His licence was immediately suspended, and he is expected to be charged on summons with driving offences.

Beaufort police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the vehicle in the lead up to the crash, or who may have dash-cam footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

On Sunday 15 November police were patrolling Sunraysia Highway at Waubra and detected a ute travelling at 167km/h in a 100 zone about 10.20am.

Police intercepted the vehicle and immediately impounded the ute at a cost of $1665.

The driver, a 19-year-old from metropolitan Melbourne, will be charged on summons with speeding offences.

About 1.50pm the same police spotted another speeding motorist, this time motorcycle on Beaufort-Carngham Rd in Mena Park.

The bike was detected travelling at 131km/h in a 100zone and intercepted a short time later.

A 66-year-old Man from metropolitan Melbourne was issued a penalty notice for speeding which incurs a 3-month loss of licence.

Operation Compass is a state-wide operation targeting bad driver behaviour.

The operation runs Thursdays to Sundays and will conclude at 11.59pm on 29 November.
