To celebrate, the National Parks and Wildlife Service is hosting free walks for the community on Saturday 2 November at Barrington Tops National Park.

Current and former staff and many others involved in the creation of the Park and ongoing management will join other guests to celebrate at Polblue Camping Area this Saturday.

Everyone is encouraged to BYO lunch and spend the day at Barrington Tops National Park to enjoy the short, guided experiences at popular walks and lookouts and to join us at the formal ceremony at Polblue.

Carved out of ancient volcanic flows, the park rises from near sea level to over 1500 metres and protects one of the largest temperate rainforests in mainland Australia, along with a host of diverse habitats and a wide range of birds and other animals.

Boasting the most extensive areas of subtropical and temperate rainforest in the world the park is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia, a UNESCO World Heritage Area celebrating its 25th anniversary of listing.

The free walks are:

  • Honeysuckle Forest: Free tours commencing at 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm.
  • Polblue Swamp Track: Free tours commencing at 2pm.
  • Devils Hole lookout: A roving Discovery Guide will be available from 11am to 1pm.
  • Polblue Camping Area: Discovery Ranger activities from 10.30am; Formal ceremony from 11.30am
