Basin Time Capsule cairn restored

The cairn for The Basin Time Capsule has been restored and will be unveiled at a public event at The Basin Triangle this Sunday.

Contents of the Time Capsule, which was buried in The Basin in 1967 and re-opened in February this year, is on display at Miller’s Homestead until Friday 13 May.

The display shows photos of the Time Capsule recovery, which was located inside a cairn at The Basin Triangle. It took many hours to take away brick by brick from the cairn to reveal the capsule.

The historic cairn has been restored and will be unveiled this Sunday at The Basin Triangle. The unveiling celebrations run from 12pm-3:30pm and include entertainment. The formalities will take place at 1:30pm. The event is open to the public.

Allan Toole, who contributed to the Time Capsule as a 12 year old boy, will be at the event.

The unearthing of the Time Capsule and the restoration of the cairn have involved many areas of the community working together including historic families, local historians, community groups, local businesses and organisations.

The display at Miller’s Homestead is free to visit and open Monday to Friday 9:30am – 12pm and 1pm-5pm.
