BBL jerseys boost CFA Bushfire Appeal donation

Generous bidders have helped Victorian cricket contribute $28,517 to the CFA Bushfire Appeal Public Fund following the auction of signed BBL match jerseys from players at the Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades.

Driven by the respective playing groups, the proceeds of the auctions will be donated to support the range of critical work the CFA is doing in bushfire-affected communities.

The news comes ahead of The Big Appeal Bushfire Cricket Bash at the SCG this Saturday well as the establishment of the Community Bushfire Recovery Fund to support the many cricket clubs and cricket communities affected to get back on their feet with an injection of $2 million from Cricket Australia to open the fund.

In a joint statement, Melbourne Stars captain Glenn Maxwell and Melbourne Renegades captain Aaron Finch said the donation was one step on behalf of both Big Bash clubs.

“On behalf of both playing groups, all our thoughts are with bushfire-affected communities all over Australia. These devastating fires have had an enormous impact on people, property and our natural environment. Cricket becomes insignificant in comparison to what some people are trying to manage and recover from at the moment.”

“We’d like to thank everyone who made a contribution through the auction and as a cricket community we will continue to support the recovery and relief efforts over the many days and months ahead.”
