Be aware of pedestrians this New Year’s Eve, NSW

NSW Police are urging road users to be aware of additional pedestrian traffic tonight as revellers prepare to celebrate New Year’s Eve.

Operation Safe Arrival, the State’s Christmas/New Year road safety operation, started at 12.01am on Friday 21 December 2018, and will continue until 11.59pm on Tuesday 1 January 2019.

Double demerits will be in place over the entire long-weekend for all speeding, mobile phone, seatbelt and motorcycle-helmet offences.

Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy of the Traffic & Highway Patrol Command, said that it’s important for people to exercise caution while travelling on our roads during this time of celebration.

“Take extra care and slow down as there is likely to be a large number of people out and about to enjoy New Year’s Eve celebrations around the state” Assistant Commissioner Corboy said.
