Beach House enters a new era

The City-owned
Beach House pavilion at Eastern Beach re-opens to the public under a renowned
café operator next week.

Following a
major refurbishment of the heritage-listed building, The Mulberry Group will
open the doors to Beach House Geelong on Monday morning.

The café and
takeaway kiosk will operate daily throughout the summer holidays, with the
kiosk to be open until 9pm.

The second
level will be used as a function space that is available for private events.

The City and
the Mulberry Group have agreed to a 10-year lease, providing some long-term
stability for the historic waterfront venue.

The group has
been responsible for several leading cafes in Melbourne, having established Top
Paddock, Higher Ground and Three Bags Full.

It now runs the
Common Ground Project, in Freshwater Creek, and Liminal, in Melbourne CBD.

The venture has
given the region an economic boost, through the injection of 35 jobs, and will
contribute to Geelong’s rising reputation as a premier food destination.

The opening
follows a refurbishment and upgrade of the 1930s building this year.

A number of
maintenance and compliance issues have been addressed in a manner respectful to
its heritage significance.

The Beach House
has not been open since the former restaurant closed suddenly in April 2016.

Eastern
Beach has long been a focal point for swimming, socialising and other outdoor
activities; it can now add first-class food destination to its list of features. Having a
renowned café operator take control of the Beach House will be a major drawcard
for residents and visitors alike. The re-opening
of the Beach House will lift the quality and vibrancy of an area that has
retained its popularity throughout the years to remain a jewel in Geelong’s
crown.
