It has been an exciting year for arts and culture on the Sunshine Coast and now there is an opportunity to help to promote, advance and raise funds for arts and cultural experiences by becoming a member of the Sunshine Coast Arts Foundation board.
Sunshine Coast Council is now recruiting for professional and experienced board members who will be responsible for the overall strategic direction of the independent foundation, and proactively seek and then distribute financial and in-kind support to arts outcomes that benefit the region.
Arts Portfolio Cr Rick Baberowski said the foundation would play a strong role in helping to develop a philanthropic response to arts development across the Sunshine Coast.
“The establishment of the arts foundation is another exciting region-first arts venture,” Cr Baberowski said.
“The Sunshine Coast Arts Advisory Board spent considerable time developing a framework for the foundation and key to its success will be the ability of the foundation board to nurture and grow a community of philanthropy and giving on the Sunshine Coast, via their planning, networks and strategies.
“By establishing the foundation, we are providing an avenue for people and organisations to give back to our arts community.”
The Sunshine Coast Arts Foundation will be aligned to Caloundra Regional Gallery and will enable the:
- development of a regional culture of philanthropy by encouraging donations, gifts, bequests, endowments etc. for the public charitable purposes of promoting and advancing arts and culture (all art forms) across the Sunshine Coast, and
- provision of financial and in-kind support via a range of mechanisms to organisations, groups and individuals with the aim of achieving arts outcomes that benefit this region.
The board will require skills and expertise in strategic planning, leadership, knowledge of governance and board processes, philanthropic experience, understanding of cultural policy, knowledge of the Sunshine Coast and business acumen.
While individual applicants will not necessarily possess all these attributes, priority will be given to applicants who are considered able to make the broadest contribution to the board’s work. Board members serve in a voluntarily capacity.
Council is providing establishment funding to the independent foundation via a three-year sponsorship agreement.
It is anticipated that from the fourth year onwards, the foundation will be self-funding.
