Police Make Arrest – Assault Police In Alice Springs 26 April

Northern Territory Police have arrested a man in relation to a disturbance in Alice Springs earlier today.

Around 8.30am, police were conducting proactive patrols within the Alice Springs CBD. Police identified a 45-year-old man on Simpson Street who was subject to an active banning notice and directed him to leave.

The man refused and when police attempted to apprehend him, police will allege the 45-year-old assaulted an officer by kicking him in the legs.

Additional officers were required to arrest the man, and he is expected to be charged later today.

Neither the man nor attending police officers suffered injuries as a result of the incident.

Commander James Gray-Spence said “This incident highlights the risks our frontline officers face in the line of duty.

“Violence in our community will not be tolerated and I want to acknowledge the responding officers’ dedication and effort in keeping our community safe.”
