The demolition of the Brownlie Towers apartment complex has finished, marking a critical milestone for Bentley 360 – one of Western Australia’s biggest urban infill projects.
Housing Minister Peter Tinley noted the milestone today, also announcing that work will soon start to temporarily landscape the former site of the Towers ahead of the start of permanent development works on the Bentley 360 project.
The State Government has a strong focus on urban development that benefits the WA community and meets growing demand for diverse infill housing.
Using the best practice in urban development, Bentley 360 will set a new standard in sustainable and affordable housing that will breathe new life into Bentley and create a community where people have a strong sense of belonging.
Artwork and selected artefacts were carefully removed from the Towers, prior to demolition, for incorporation into the future development and parklands.
Delta Group Pty Ltd began demolition in March 2019 using one of Australia’s biggest construction excavators. It is expected that removal of the remaining building rubble will be completed by late July.
Up to 95 per cent of the rubble, which will be processed off site, will be recycled.
The Bentley Community Liaison Committee recently held a community-wide vote to determine how to temporarily landscape the former site of the Towers.
About 75 per cent of the respondents favoured an ‘active’ scheme which includes a mountain bike course, BMX pump track, turfed viewing bank, tree nursery, and other exciting improvements.
Landscaping to install these facilities is scheduled to start in early August and open to the public in late 2019.
As stated by Housing Minister Peter Tinley:
“The demolition of Brownlie Towers is an exciting achievement for the Bentley 360 project which is designed to deliver at least 1,500 new homes only 15 minutes from Perth’s CBD.
“Bentley 360 is expected to create more than 2,200 jobs across the course of development and inject an estimated $1.089 billion into the State’s economy during construction.
“This high-profile project provides an excellent opportunity to create and support jobs while establishing a new era in connected communities.”

“As the local member, I welcome this important development in the Bentley 360 project.
“This is a very complex development and the importance of genuine community engagement cannot be understated. That’s why I was particularly impressed with the recent appointment of Ian Carter AM as the Independent Chair of the Bentley Community Liaison Committee.
“The Committee provides an avenue for community expertise and opinions to feed into the delivery of Bentley 360 and help ensure its success.”
