A Matthew Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will commit $3.2 million to upgrade Somers Primary School as part of our plan toRecover. Rebuild.

Somers is now home to many young families, with more having moved into the community as permanent residents since the ongoing lockdown restrictions in Melbourne.

Leader of the Opposition, Matthew Guy said parents deserved certainty after two years of interrupted learning.

“Now, more than ever, parents need certainty and the confidence their children will not fall further behind at school, which includes having the best facilities available.”

“Somers Primary School has been constantly overlooked by Labor and only a Liberals and Nationals Government will deliver the upgrades it deserves.”

The existing administration building is a 20-year-old portable that no longer meets the needs of the school.

Funding provided will kickstart the development of the school’s Master Plan and the completion of Stage 1 upgrades, including a new administrative building with capacity for the entire school community to meet for school assemblies.

Liberal Candidate for Hastings, Briony Hutton saidshe was pleasedthe Liberals and Nationals were committed to improving the quality of Victorian schools and ensuring that staff can continue to focus on delivering excellent education outcomes for all students.

“The Somers community is growing rapidly and locals deserve a government that delivers the projects they need, when they need it.”

“I am delighted that the Liberals and Nationals will support Somers Primary School and the local community by providing this much-needed infrastructure funding.”
