Better Local Roads in Officer

Works to seal LL Road and Armytage Road, from Brown Road to LL Road, in Officer are underway.

The works are part of Cardinia Shire Council’s $25 million Better Local Roads – Strategic Sealed Roads Project and will also include the construction of an interim seal on Brown Rd (from Armytage Road to Starling Road), to connect LL Road and Armytage Road to the existing sealed road network.

Pavement construction, kerb and channel, as well as drainage works, will also be completed as part of the project.

Council’s Better Local Roads – Strategic Sealed Roads Project will seal approximately 40 kilometres of local unsealed roads in seven locations across the municipality.

Cardinia Shire Council Mayor Cr Jeff Springfield said the project will play a significant role in building a better Cardinia by helping to improve the lives of residents.

“The Better Local Roads – Strategic Sealed Roads Project will create strategic links to existing sealed roads in locations where they are needed most, and where they will deliver the most benefit, such as Officer’s LL Road and Armytage Road,” Cr Springfield said.

Works on LL Road, Armytage Road, and Browns Road are fully funded by Council and are scheduled to be completed in mid-2022, weather permitting.

Ward Councillor, Tammy Radford, said the community was looking forward to the upgrades.

“With the rapid increase in population throughout Officer Ward and daily use of these connector roads, these upgrades have been very welcomed by the community and I’m excited to see that works have started.”

Works under Council’s Better Local Roads – Strategic Sealed Roads Project started in November 2020, on Main Drain Road (between Denhams Road and Ballarto Road) and Boundary Drain Road (between Denhams Road and Koo Wee Rup Road/Station Street) in Koo Wee Rup. Works on these roads have now been completed.

Other roads and locations to follow include:

  • Evans Road: whole length (Bunyip)
  • Bessie Creek Road: unsealed section (Nar Nar Goon)
  • Mt Lyall Road: Westernport Road to municipal boundary (Heath Hill)
  • Thewlis Road: Peck Road to Brown Road (Pakenham)
  • Dore Road: whole length (Pakenham)
  • Huxtable Road: whole length (Pakenham Upper)
  • McGregor Road: whole length (Rythdale)
  • Soldiers Road: McGregor Road to Hobson Road (Rythdale)
  • Hobson Road: Ballarto Road to Soldiers Road (Rythdale).

“These roads were chosen because they provided the best links between existing sealed road networks,” Cr Springfield said.

“They are also in the highest-traffic areas, offer the greatest convenience for road-users, have the most safety benefits, will allow for the greatest long-term cost savings (by reducing maintenance), and were most requested for road repairs and maintenance by the community.”
