An additional 8,000 social housing properties in Queensland will receive upgrades to their energy performance, helping lower energy bills and improve comfort for thousands more households under a $97.1 million investment from the Albanese Government.
Under the Social Housing Energy Performance Initiative (SHEPI), upgrades could include ceiling insulation, energy-efficient ceiling fans, electric stoves, efficient hot water systems and rooftop solar.
Installations will commence this year across around 7,000 public housing properties and 1,000 community housing properties.
The improvements will help tenants keep their homes cooler through Queensland’s hot summers and more comfortable during the cooler winter months, while reducing energy use and bills.
Through SHEPI, more than 15,000 social housing properties across Queensland have already been upgraded.
Nationally, SHEPI is investing $1.1 billion, including $800 million from the Albanese Government, to support energy performance upgrades to more than 100,000 social housing properties across Australia. Over 41,000 upgrades have already been completed.
