Blacktown City Council – additional COVID-19 measures

Blacktown City Council is implementing additional measures in response to the global COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.

Blacktown City Mayor Tony Bleasdale OAM said, “Council has a duty of care to residents and staff to ensure all the necessary actions are being undertaken to slow the spread of the virus.

“In addition to the current closures, all Blacktown City Library branches and services will now be closed to the public.

“The Home Library Service however, which assists residents by reason of age, sickness or other incapacity, will continue to operate and Library users can access the Libraries’ online resources including eBooks and eMagazines as part of their Library membership,” Mayor Bleasdale said.

“Council will also close all indoor courts at its five leisure and swimming centres, including the lap pools, and tennis courts. Only the Athletics track at the Blacktown International Sportspark will stay open for individual training.

“Our Council operated childcare centres (KEL) will continue to operate, as long as NSW Government schools remain open.

“I’d like everyone to keep in mind that the most effective way to slow the infection rate is by ‘social distancing,’ including avoiding crowds, meetings and gatherings, staying at home if you have cold or flu symptoms, working from home, and putting one-to-two metres ‘space’ between people where possible,” Mayor Bleasdale said.

All Blacktown City Libraries will be closed:

  • Max Webber Library
  • Dennis Johnson Library
  • Our Library @ The Mount Druitt Hub
  • Lalor Park Library
  • Riverstone Library & Digital Hub

    Swimming and leisure centres affected:

  • Blacktown Aquatic Centre
  • Blacktown Leisure Centre Stanhope
  • Mount Druitt Swimming Centre
  • Riverstone Swimming Centre
  • Charlie Lowles Leisure Centre Emerton.
