Clermont’s new BMX Track is progressing well, with the first run through of the track a success.
BMX enthusiasts in the Isaac community can start to dust off their bikes and pump up their tyres as the new track has hit a number of milestones.
Australian BMX cycling champion Tristyn Kronk was the first rider to do a test run on the newly created track and jumps, giving the thumbs-up after the area underwent a concrete pour on Saturday, February 23.
Footage from a helmet camera worn by Mr Kronk showed what the 400-metre track will look like to the rider, with several jumps, turns and flats guaranteed to entertain riders of all ages and skill levels.
Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker said the first ride milestone was encouraging for locals who enjoy the popular sport.
“This is a great effort from the collaboration between the Queensland Government, Council, the Clermont community and the contractor, BMX Tracks Australia,” Mayor Baker said.
“Community assets like this BMX Track help encourage an active and healthy lifestyle, as well as showcase the great activities that can happen in a regional community.”
The $445,000 project is co-funded by Isaac Regional Council in partnership with the Queensland Government under the Works for Queensland (W4Q) program.
“The Clermont sporting precinct has previously benefited from Works for Queensland funding to renew our hardcourt facilities, and the BMX Track will revitalise the precinct and incorporate wider community involvement,” Mayor Baker said.
“Imagine how wonderful it would be for the track to foster a potential champion, showcasing the pure people power we boast in our great region.”
The BMX Track is scheduled for completion in March 2019, producing a quality track able to support state-level BMX events.
