Bonus recycling collection over Christmas and New Year

Households with a three-bin service will receive a bonus yellow bin collection over Christmas and New Year to allow residents to cope with the extra recycling produced over the festive season.

Kempsey Shire Council will offer the extra collection weekly for the period 23 December 2019 to 5 January 2020. This means all serviced households can put their yellow bin out on same day as their red and green bins would normally be collected.

Local businesses that pay for a kerbside yellow bin service can also put out their recycling bin in their off-week collection day. Public bins in South West Rocks, Crescent Head and Hat Head will also get extra collections over this period to prevent bin overflow.

Council’s Coordinator of Waste Services, Gavin Hughes, said the additional recycling collection would help residents and visitors dispose of the extra paper, cardboard and containers.

Recyclable containers can be made of plastic, glass or metal and include bottles, cans, jars or tubs with a recycling symbol on them.

“While our residents do a great job of recycling and reducing their waste, this time of year can mean extra paper, boxes and bottles as residents have time off work, host visitors and socialise more,” Mr Hughes said.

“We understand it’s a busy time for everyone so that’s why Council has introduced the extra collection services to make recycling a bit easier.

“Council’s Waste facilities also accept this recycling free of charge and the main site on Crescent Head Road, South Kempsey is open every day except Christmas Day.

“Recycling can also be taken to any of our three waste transfer stations located at South West Rocks, Stuarts Point and Bellbrook.”
