Boroondara’s Takeover Melbourne winner announced

Throughout Victorian Youth Month, we’re shining a spotlight on the fantastic achievements of young people in our community.

We are proud to announce Jemima from Hawthorn East has recently been named as Boroondara’s winner in the ABC’s Takeover Melbourne competition.

Jemima’s winning story shared her own personal experience with learning to manage a stutter to become a public speaker.

“I am fortunate enough that my speech impairment has become more manageable over the course of my life, but that is not to say that I just ‘grew out of it,” said Jemima.

“I learned to live with this condition, with the help of lots of therapy and practice. And I’m proud to be where I am today.”

The competition is a new initiative from the ABC in partnership with VicHealth, Resilient Melbourne and the Centre for Multicultural Youth, and creates a powerful platform for young Melburnians to showcase their stories of resilience and talent.

The 32 winners from each of the local government areas of Greater Melbourne will work with ABC producers to have their story featured on ABC TV, radio or online.

Takeover Melbourne is one of the many events Boroondara Youth facilitate to provide opportunities which encourage and support the aspirations and talents of young people in our community.
