Botany Pool Upgrade Starts in 2024: Bayside

Bayside Mayor Dr Christina Curry announced that the Botany Aquatic Centre construction would begin in April 2024 and take 18 months to complete.

“This is exciting news. We now have a definite timetable for the upgrade which will see the Botany Aquatic Centre transformed into a state-of-the-art Aquatic Centre that will operate year-round.

“I am confident it is the right decision and will deliver a better long-term outcome for our community. We are building an amazing water park and slides for the children, while upgrading the whole facility.

Mayor Curry said Council originally planned to complete the upgrade in two stages, however, funding is now available to undertake the upgrade as one project, which will deliver a better outcome for the community and pool patrons within the same overall timeframe.

“Completing the full upgrade over 18 months will mean less disruption and the pool will be back in action for the 2025 swimming season and beyond,” she said.

Council has the full support of Sydney Airport, the sponsors of the Children’s Water Play area, to undertake the works as one project.

With the heavy rain over recent times the water table has risen by nearly a metre.

Having heavy equipment on sight was deemed too risky and there are a number of drainage concerns we are now able to overcome before construction begins.

The Mayor also advised the good news that the 2022 summer events program at this much-loved community facility can now proceed.

“We are already planning our annual Halloween Movie night and this year we will host a Community Christmas Event with Carols, food trucks and a Christmas Movie,” Mayor Curry said.

“There will also be a visit from Santa and opportunity for Santa photos for all the family.”

Highlights of the upgrade will include:

  • A 50 metre outdoor competition pool
  • An indoor learn to swim pool
  • A 25m indoor lap pool
  • Adventure slides / major water play / splash pad
  • A new building including entrance, amenities, change rooms and café
  • New grandstand
  • Landscaping works to the open green space
  • Health and fitness / gym space
  • Community / child minding space
