Box Hill Hawks set to score with $5 million contribution to redevelopment

Liberal Party Victoria

A Matthew Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will encourage participation in community sport with a contribution of $5 million towards the redevelopment of Box Hill City Oval.

This funding complements a $7.5 million commitment by the Morrison Liberal Government and under these commitments, this important project will be a significant step closer.

Under the Liberals and Nationals’ plan, families in the area would benefit from greater access to the outstanding facilities, with a vision to transform it into a community hub.

Home of the Box Hill Hawks VFL & VFLW Football Clubs and Box Hill Cricket Club, City Oval has long been used to develop the talents of those wanting to make it to the elite level.

Now, as the eastern suburbs continue to grow, the redevelopment will provide the community with a vibrant green space in the heart of Box Hill.

This would include improving accessible footpaths, a walking track, female change rooms, and a refurbished pavilion space open to be hired by the community.

The investment would also go toward the upgrade of broadcast facilities for VFL and VFLW games.

Leader of the Opposition, Matthew Guy, said the redevelopment would help local sport recover and rebuild following two years of disruption.

“Anything that helps encourage Victorians to get active or participate in local sporting groups is a win for the community,” Mr Guy said.

“Local sporting clubs are a vital part of Box Hill and the Liberals and Nationals are proud to support grassroots sport with this commitment.”

Liberal Candidate for Box Hill, Nicole Werner, said the multipurpose venue would provide a hub for the community to participate in educational, recreational and sporting activities.

“This announcement today will go a long way towards meeting the needs of the growing community in the area.

“Only a Matthew Guy led Liberals and Nationals Government will help deliver this fantastic asset for Box Hill.”
