A brand-new Hawkesbury LGA welcome sign on Putty Road has been destroyed in an act of senseless vandalism that will cost the community to replace.
Sometime between Monday 7 September and Wednesday 9 September, the Welcome to the Hawkesbury sign was removed from its base and dragged by an as-yet unidentified vehicle for several hundred metres before being abandoned by the side of the road. Police have been informed.
The sign was recently installed as part of Council’s Wayfinding Signage Project, funded by the Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants program. The newly installed signs are designed to welcome residents and visitors to the City, create a sense of place and showcase the unique identity of the Hawkesbury.
Acts of vandalism such as these force Council to use extra resources to replace or restore damaged infrastructure – resources that could otherwise be invested in community facilities, improvements and services that benefit residents.
