The Barossa Council will partner with industry experts to deliver two defining events aimed at having courageous conversations around workplace diversity and encouraging employers to support people with disability to thrive in employment opportunities.
The sessions will be run on 27 November and 29 November as part of a week-long program of events celebrating International Day of People with Disability on Sunday, 3 December.
Event 1 on Monday, 27 November will provide practical business support for employers as well as lived experiences of people living and working with disability.
Event 2 on Wednesday, 29 November aims to connect people with disability and their advocates to support partners and services in the community.
Council’s Community Development Officer Natalie Mudge said leading workforce experts and community partners will provide practical support and advice on pathways to work and volunteering.
“We encourage all employers to challenge their unconscious bias and focus on what an individual can bring to the workplace. Employers can help bridge the workforce gap and create more opportunities for everyone,” Natalie said.
Diverse workplaces allow for a broader range of skills along with valuable perspectives and experiences.

Connection with industry experts and people with lived experience of disability in these sessions will give you the tools in workplace adjustments, assistive technology, job carving, and funding for on-the-job training.
“In hiring people with disability, employers gain a more diverse, creative workforce, while employees with disabilities find empowerment and independence,” Natalie said. “This approach benefits both employers and employees in Barossa.
“As a community we can break down barriers and promote an all-inclusive Barossa.”
