The Allan Labor Government is backing the fight to beat Motor Neurone Disease.
This year we’re throwing our support behind Neale Daniher’s FightMND campaign with a $500,000 donation to the Big Freeze.
The Government is a proud supporter of FightMND and has donated $4.6 million since 2015.
Around 2,750 Australians and 520 Victorians live with MND – a disease that slowly robs people of their ability to walk, talk, eat, and eventually breathe.
Daniher, a former Essendon Football Club captain and coach of the Melbourne Football Club, was diagnosed with MND in 2013.
Because of his efforts, Australia is leading the fight against MND, with new clinical trials, drug development, research and early identification.
Every dollar raised, every blue beanie bought, helping to drive this disease to defeat.
Last year, Australia gave Neale one of its highest honours, naming him Australian of the Year.
It was a recognition of what he had done.
But more than that, it was a recognition of who he was.
Neale Daniher was a great Australian.
And with the support of his family, Victoria will proudly honour him with a State Memorial Service on June 10 – a fitting tribute to an extraordinary life and an extraordinary contribution.
Since forming in 2014, FightMND has raised more than $150 million, of which $117 million has been invested into MND research and projects caring for those living with MND.
The Big Freeze event will be held on Monday 8 June 2026 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

As stated by Member for Pakenham Emma Vulin
“Neale and his family’s dedication has profoundly raised awareness of MND, and I’m honoured we are continuing to support the Big Freeze as it marks its 12th year.”
