Teralba’s eastern bridge has run its race, with works underway on a safer, stronger crossing at Racecourse Road.
Bridge 263, which crosses the creek east of Teralba Bowling Club, is being replaced due to poor structural condition.
A new bridge is being built, which will safely support heavy vehicles, provide unrestricted two-way traffic flow and improve long-term road safety.
A new shared pathway including boardwalk across the creek and associated roadworks will also improve the safety at the Blair Street and York Street intersection.
The $7.6 million project is jointly funded with $5 million from the Albanese Government’s Safer Local Roads Infrastructure Program and $2.6 million from Lake Macquarie City Council.
The bridge will be closed for a short period while a temporary single lane crossing is established, with the full replacement expected to take about 12 months.
