Bright idea for pathways

We’re continuing to make our paths safer and more accessible, with new solar-powered lights going up on a popular walkway through David Bayne Park and David Winterbottom Park, off Huon Park Road.

The eight new lights, which will be operational by Friday March 18, will complete the illumination of the cycling and walking path to Yarralumla Drive.

Two new lights have also been installed in Graeme Sutherland Park, behind the Belgrade Avenue Pre-School.

The LED lights have motion sensors that enable them to brighten when walkers or riders approach and dim to 30 per cent of power when nobody is nearby.

The installation not only makes our paths safer after dark, the new lights are also cheaper to run and maintain than traditional lighting, and they help to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions.

It’s part of an ongoing program to make it easier for people to travel through our beautiful parklands from the CBD to reserves, shops and homes.

Similar systems have also been installed at:

  • Birallee Park
  • David Bishop Park
  • Arthur Dunstan Park
  • Frank Krier and George Looms Park
  • Westlands Park, and
  • James Taverny Park

More than 200 solar lights have now been installed along Wodonga’s pathways and we’ll continue to add more as funding becomes available.
