Brimbank acknowledges return of Stage 3 restrictions

A statement from Brimbank City Council Mayor, Cr Georgina Papafotiou

Brimbank Council acknowledges the Victorian Government’s announcement of the return of Stage 3 restrictions across metropolitan Melbourne, including all of Brimbank’s suburbs from 11.59pm Wednesday night 8 July 2020.

We are asking our community to follow the advice of the health authorities. These restrictions are being applied because of the increasing numbers of COVID-19 and the heightened risk of transmission.

The Government’s stay at home orders mean there will only be four reasons for our community members to leave home. This for shopping for food and essential items; care and caregiving; exercise; work and study – if you can’t do it from home.

Some of our suburbs were already in Stage 3 restrictions, and we would like to thank you for your efforts. Now that the lockdowns have been extended, we know this will have a broader impact again.

We recognise these restrictions will be difficult for our community members and our businesses but we are committed to supporting you through this period.

As always, the health and safety of our community and our staff remains our top priority.

The Stage 3 restrictions also means that a number of Council services and facilities will again be closed across our municipality from that time. This includes closing our five libraries, neighbourhood houses, our Leisure Centres, playgrounds, skate parks, off-leash dog parks, outdoor exercise equipment and B.B.Q. facilities and sporting facilities.

Council will continue to deliver essential services such as household waste collection, immunisation, meals delivery, roads and cleansing, parks maintenance, health and building inspections.

As we did last time, Council will continue to offer online services where it can, and we’ll continue to support the community in other ways.

Our community, and our Council will need assistance to help us to get through this period, and to begin to recover from this pandemic.

We will continue to talk to the Department of Health and Human Services and the State Government to understand how we support them and how we support our communities.

Council will continue to support our residents as best we can, and we ask you that you support each other, follow the advice of the health authorities in staying home and getting tested if you have any symptoms.
