End vaccine mandates to get truck drivers back on the road

The Andrews Labor Government needs to listen to the growing number of epidemiologists, understand the needs of the transport industry and remove Covid vaccination mandates for truck drivers.

The Victorian Transport Association says about 10 per cent of its truck drivers have left the industry because of the mandates, which had adversely impacted the supply chain.

Victoria is out of touch with the eastern seaboard states by keeping mandates and Minister for Health Martin Foley needs to disclose the health advice and explain why he is keeping them.

The logistics industry is in crisis with massive delays and access to drivers is critical for the national supply chain to function efficiently.

As stated by Shadow Minister for Ports and Freight Roma Britnell

“The freight and transport industry needs certainty to ensure it can continue to deliver the essential goods we need.”

“Victoria has a vaccination rate at almost 95 per cent so the government needs to explain why it is keeping the mandates. We need to get truck drivers back on the road to shore up our supply chain.”

“The transport and freight industry, which is desperate to recover and rebuild, continues to be shackled by the government despite the mounting calls from health experts to end the vaccination mandates. The government needs to listen and act on this vitally important issue.”
