
At its meeting last night, Campaspe Shire Council adopted its 2026/27 Budget, outlining a responsible plan to invest in key infrastructure, deliver essential services and support the long-term sustainability of the Shire.
Campaspe Shire Mayor, Cr Daniel Mackrell said the budget reflects Council’s commitment to balancing affordability with the delivery of essential services and strategic investment.
“This Budget is about delivering for our community – maintaining the services people rely on every day, while continuing to invest in the long-term future of Campaspe,” Cr Mackrell said.
The 2026/27 Budget delivers an operating surplus of $9.65 million and reflects Council’s commitment to financial responsibility, while continuing to respond to community priorities. The budget has been set under rate capping constraints, with a 2.75% increase applied in line with the Victorian Government’s cap.
Council has committed $40.66 million to capital works in 2026/27, including significant investment in roads, recreation and community infrastructure:
- $15.85 million for roads infrastructure renewal and upgrades
- $10.34 million for Recreation, Leisure & Community Facilities works including $9.14 million for the continuation of the redevelopment of Victoria Park, Echuca
- $3.51 million for kerb and channel drainage works and flood barriers
- $1.91 million for footpath and cycleways infrastructure
- $0.87 million for the Gunbower Thompsons Bridge renewal
“We’re continuing to invest in the infrastructure that supports our communities every day – from local roads through to community facilities and public spaces,” Cr Mackrell said.
Council is also investing $6.3 million in shire-wide building works, with highlights including:
- $1.6 million for building renewal works (general building works across the shire)
- $62,000 for Lockington Community Centre air conditioning renewal
- $1 million for continued implementation of the Echuca Holiday Park master plan
- $0.75 million for the Echuca & District Livestock Exchange new loading ramp and bugle laneway
- $218,000 for Girgarre Recreation Reserve female-friendly facilities design
- Rochester Shire Hall and Community House heating and cooling upgrade over two years, including $100,000 in 2026/27 and $130,000 in 2027/28
- $320,000 for public amenities at Edis Park, Kyabram
Council also allocated an additional $100,000 to the Grant and Sponsorship program to establish a dedicated fund for milestone celebrations.
“This Budget has been shaped by what our community has told us matters – strong infrastructure, quality services, and planning for the future,” Cr Mackrell said.
