Earlier this year, Rebecca White dumped her signature pokies policy on the grounds that she couldn’t deliver it from Opposition. Today, Shadow Treasurer Scott Bacon claims he will be introducing new taxation measures from Opposition.
Nothing could be more emblematic of Labor’s disorganisation and internal turmoil than these completely contradictory positions.
Mr Bacon’s blustering today could be taken as another dig at Ms White’s leadership and her backflip on pokies policy. Or it could just be another sign that Labor has no policy platforms, no principles and no idea what they stand for.
In four years, Mr Bacon has never even delivered an alternative budget. He should focus on breaking his duck this year and producing an alternative budget, rather than providing unsolicited advice to the Government.
