Construction is underway on the new Brookes Academy building at Epworth Richmond, providing a customised facility to support the learning, growth and professional development of Epworth nurses and midwives across their careers.
The six-story academy will be equipped with the latest digital technology, including a world-class simulation suite with 360-degree touch screens to create a truly immersive learning environment. Through this technology, participants can be placed in virtual environments, such as a triage area, a surgical suite, or a delivery room.
While learning opportunities provided through the Brookes Academy will be available to nurses and midwives across Epworth, this new building will give the academy a purpose-built home.
“This is more than a new building. It’s a commitment by Epworth to our nurses and midwives,” said Adjunct Assoc/Prof Nicole Argall, Group Director Clinical Education & Dean, Nursing Academy.
The Brookes Academy building represents a significant investment in our people – strengthening capability, supporting career pathways and ultimately improving patient care outcomes across Epworth and the wider health system.
The new academy building has been made possible by a $28 million funding commitment from the Federal Labor Government and through the generosity of philanthropic donors.
Donor recognition and nursing history will be featured in the building’s design, including a foundational gift from the Brookes family that has made this landmark project possible.
Construction of the Brookes Academy is expected to take approximately 12 months.
