Police Arrest Man Over Fatal Stabbing At Wollongong

A man has been arrested as part of an investigation into an alleged fatal stabbing in Wollongong last year.

Emergency services were called to a unit on Crown Street, Wollongong, following reports of a stabbing, about 3.20am on Sunday 17 August 2025.

A 28-year-old man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for stab wounds to his chest and taken to Wollongong Hospital in a critical condition. He was later transferred to St George Hospital for further treatment.

A crime scene was established, and officers attached to Wollongong Police District established Strike Force Alcalde to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident.

On Saturday 23 August 2025, police were notified the man had died in hospital.

He has since been identified as Brandon Yates.

Following extensive inquiries, about 6.30am today (Wednesday 10 June 2026), police executed a search warrant at an address in Wollongong and arrested a 41-year-old man.

He was taken to Wollongong Police Station where inquiries are continuing.
