Police Charge Man After Armed Robbery – Riverina

A man has been charged after an alleged armed robbery in the state’s south earlier this year.

Between 2.30am and 5am on Sunday 8 March 2026, a number of cars were allegedly stolen from a unit in Glenroy.

Police will allege the cars were used in a number of offences including a fail-to-pay at a service station in Gumly Gumly on Sunday 8 March 2026, and an armed robbery at a licenced venue on Bolger Avenue, Mount Austin, about 11pm on Sunday 8 March 2026.

About 2.45am on Monday 9 March 2026, officers from Riverina Police District located one of the stolen cars in Townsend Place, Mount Austin.

Police will allege the driver attempted to manoeuvre the car around police and hit a nearby tree before he ran from the car.

Police seized the car and allegedly located and seized a sawn-off shotgun and a 3D-printed pistol found inside.

About 4pm Monday 16 March 2026, police attached to Riverina Police District with assistance from the Region Enforcement Squad attended a home in Heydon Avenue, Turvey Park.

Following extensive inquiries, a 26-year-old man was arrested at Bathurst Police Station and was charged with:

  • Armed with intent commit indictable offence;
  • Robbery in company;
  • Possess shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority;
  • Stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm; and
  • Drive conveyance taken w/o consent of owner.

The man was refused bail to appear Bail Division Local Court 4 tomorrow (Thursday 11 June 2026).
