BUSHFIRE SURVIVORS FOR CLIMATE ACTION (BSCA) congratulates the NSW state government on its new goal to halve emissions from 2005 levels by 2030.

“This is a good policy from the NSW government that will make sure we are playing our part in the global effort to limit temperature rises and achieve a zero-emission future,” said Jo Dodds, BSCA President.

“Our members, who have been on the front lines of climate change, have been crying out for policies like this. Premier Gladys Berejiklian, Deputy Premier John Barilaro and Energy and Environment Minister Matt Kean should be congratulated for their leadership.”

In August, BSCA achieved a landmark win after the NSW Land and Environment Court, which ruled that the NSW Environment Protection Authority has a duty to take serious action on greenhouse gas emissions and climate change.

“We expect that this commitment to reducing emissions will be reflected in the NSW EPA’s updated policies,” Dodds said.

“Now that NSW has shown what is possible, we’re looking to the federal government to step up its goals ahead of the COP26 climate summit in November.”
