BPI data quality updates
In the June 2026 quarter, the overall response rate was 93.0 percent (target response rate of 96 percent). The response rate for key firms was 99.3 percent (target response rate of 100 percent).
The lower response rate has required higher levels of imputation where we carried forward previous prices for the relevant respondent that did not respond (that is, price change was zero).
Catch-up movement for fuel
This release includes a catch-up movement for the following commodity series:
- PPIQ.SQNC33100 – Petrol
- PPIQ.SQNC33200 – Diesel.
From the June 2024 to the June 2026 quarters, we did not record any price change for some businesses included in the above commodity series. The businesses account for approximately 15 percent of the above commodity index weight for petrol and 30 percent of the index weight for diesel.
For the June 2026 quarter, we have applied a catch-up movement to account for this under-reporting of price change for petrol and diesel. The catch-up movement has been calculated by applying the average percentage movement of all price changes, collected for the same type and grade of fuel in each series, since the June 2024 quarter.
These series also contribute to other business price indexes, most notably FPIQ.SEH15 – Fuel.
